We are officially the owners of a money pit! Hooray for me and my girlfriend Ms. Vickie! We will have the pleasure of taking this dilapidated as-is, bank-owned foreclosure and renovating it into what will eventually be an awesome house.
To the left is a picture of the front. It is an all brick, 1890, chicago brownstone house in a hip and trendy neighborhood called Wicker Park. It is actually on the park just across the street from a baseball field and dog park. The home is within the boundaries of the City of Chicago Wicker Park Landmark District. Does that make it a landmark house? I don't know. Maybe someone can tell me.
It is going to take a lot of work to turn this into a nice house. It currently has no kitchen, no bathrooms, has lots of water damage on the back side of the house, doesn't have air conditioning on the first 2 floors, needs the floors sanded and restained on the main floor and needs hardwood on the second floor. The brickwork could be a lot of problems. It will require repointing (tuckpointing) of the entire back half of the house and will probably need the parapets rebuilt on the top of the house. Boo. :( But, I guess that is what I get for getting such a good deal.
To the right Ms. Vickie is standing in the living room/dining room. Check out the details/borders in the floors!
To the Left is the view from the front porch.
Check out our kitchen to the right (or the lack thereof).
